  • Ten Workstations with Intel Motherboard P-III/550Mhz Processor

  • Network equipment's such as Switchers,Routers and Hub

  • Intel Web Cameras

  • Microprocessor development environment for i960,Strong Arm processor

  • Printers

Project Details

The laboratory provide facilities to carry out M.Tech, M.S and Development project works.
The Complete list of project is as follows:

  • Development Projects

    • Online Tutorial for X Std students in the Rural Areas
      Front end - HTML
      Back end - MYSQL
      Client side scripting - JAVASCRIPT
      Server side scripting - PHP

The TeNeT Online Tutorials project is an effort by the TeNeT Group at taking ICT and Education together to rural areas of India. The project members are involved in developing online learning materials for rural areas. The key modules of this project so far are, a set of solved question papers for the English subject with local language explanations for village high school children. The tutorials involve displaying bi-lingual content with synchronised voice-overs in local language. These have so far been implemented in the states of Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Other states to follow are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Similar modules for other subjects are planned. An online evaluation tool for the tutorials has also been developed. The thrust of the evaluation tool is on keeping it as close as possible to human correction. Besides an audio-visual bi-lingual Spoken English Course for Tamil Nadu is in place.

    • MeTEL

    • MeTEL is a Low Cost Call Meter cum Messaging Terminal. It provides applications like Mail, Short Message Service (SMS) and Chat besides being a Call Meter. In Call Meter mode, MeTEL displays the information like Dialed Number, Pulse count and Rate. The applications will run at a Remote Linux Server and display is exported to MeTEL through wireless link. MeTEL consists of a LCD Display and a normal PC/AT Keyboard as user interface. A low cost Microcontroller is used for local processing and 10Mbps Ethernet controller is used to carry data to air link. It also has a serial port to support a printer for billing purpose. It eliminates the need for Computer to send and receive emails and serves as the key for rural connectivity.

    • Entertainment Box

    • 'Entertainment Box' is a low cost Linux based Access Terminal that serves as a complete multimedia and extertainment system. It basically consists of an old recycled Motherboard, Power Supply Unit, Keyboard, Mouse, CD-ROM drive, USB Camera and Microphone. The monitor is replaced by a Television, so that the monitor cost is eliminated. The system boots from a CD-ROM and the Linux operating system is loaded in to RAM provided. The system does not contain any Hard Disk. This enables the system rigid against power failure, as there is no permanent file system provided. The system is loaded with all the essential multimedia and entertainment applications.

III. Interior decoration, furnishing and cabling needs to be carried out in accordance with a lab of international quality. Similarly, repair work needs to be carried out and air-conditioners need to be replaced. It is proposed that funds from the project be utilised to carry this out at the earliest possible.
