ADI - IITM DSP Learning Center

Located in Electrical Science Block (CION Building) top floor of IIT Madras in an area of about 2000 sq.ft. The center is a Continuing Education Unit sponsored by IIT Madras in the area of DSP application programming based DSPs of Analog Devices. The center will be part of Electrical Engineering Department of IIT Madras.

Analog Devices will sponsor the center at IIT-M and provide the following in the first three years of the operation of lab:

  • interior decoration of the lab

  • equipment's tools and Personal Computers required for the lab and audio-visual equipments for the lectures

  • a senior administrative official posted at the center on full-time basis for the first three years of operation

  • grant to cover initial experiment set-up, prepare course material, maintenance expenses and for hiring project staff to help in conducting courses

  • all educational and information about DSP available with ADI

It is expected that the total expenses of ADI would be $250K per year for the first three years.

IITM will provide the following:

  • space, power and other amenities free of cost

  • academic co-ordinators to design the academic program

  • faculty and staff to design courseware and experiment set-up and deliver lectures and conduct experiments

The center would gradually gear up to train about 500 persons every year, which include 400 students from various engineering colleges in the region and about 100 industry person from India, Asia-Pacific and Europe. The course duration and contents will be decided by the academic co-ordinators in consultation with ADI. An initial proposal towards this is contained in accompanying presentation "DSP-An Opportunity for India".

The ADI administrator will set-up and maintain the center and carry out all administrative responsibilities for the courses, including advertising, registering students as well as schedule classes and experiments with the help of administrative co-ordinator. The administrator will also market the course using ADI offices and reps. in India, Asia-Pacific and Europe.

It is expected that ADI University program as well as ADI "Systems Solutions" will help in designing courseware and experiments as well as deliver some of the lectures in the courses.

All courses will be delivered as continuing education course of IIT Madras. IIT Madras will work out an opportunity of revenue as generated from the courses towards lecture and lab fees, overheads to IITM and towards center maintenance and upgradation. ADI does not expect any share of the revenue.

The program will be reviewed at the end of three years and ADI would be expected to provide periodic upgrades of tools, equipements and PCs.

IITM will appoint head of the center and an academic co-ordinator of the program in consultation with Analog Devices. It is proposed that Dr.Ashok Jhunjhunwala be the Head of the Center and Dr.K.M.M.Prabhu be the academic co-ordinator for the first three years.
